Brindasakhi Singha comes from Hailakandi district of Assam. She lives in a village namely Sudorshonpur, Lala Block, Hailakandi along with her husband. The only source of income for her family is from her husband’s work who is does farming on a small piece of land.
Brindasakhi was looking for an opportunity within her village that would support the family’s income. She always wanted to support her husband in contributing to family incomes. As she had a good understanding of using a smartphone and digital technology, she was approached for the role of Digital Sarthak. She gladly accepted the role as it involved working within the village and also assisting the women of her community in digital upskilling.
Since she joined the programme, it has helped her with a certain income from the training to women entrepreneurs as well as by providing digital services to the community using the smartphone and printer.
The training programme involved doing field visits and interacting with the women entrepreneurs. Initially, she faced challenges as she wasn’t confident of conducting training in front of the women entrepreneurs. Later, as the time passed by, she started conducting the session with confidence and also solving the queries of the women entrepreneurs. Further, it has helped to improve her communication skills.
One can say that along with a source of livelihood, the programme has boosted her morale and self-confidence by working independently and helping the community.
